Yternis Magissa Novella
Monsters have mysteriously appeared and are attacking the kingdom of Yternis, harvesting souls for energy for unknown purposes. In the middle of it all is a girl named Novella, who becomes a magical girl to defend her village from a monster attack. Can Novella stop the monster invasion before it's too late?
Disclaimer: this is not a complete game, but the first few levels of what (hopefully) will be a much longer game are fully playable.

Notes
Anyone who has played the 1990 game Arkista's Ring for the Nintendo Entertainment System will probably immediately recognize that game's "influence" on this. I've wanted to make a game similar to it for some time and I thought magical girl mechanics might be interesting to add to the mix.
This game was created with MegaZeux, a game creation system originally released in 1994 for DOS. MegaZeux has a built-in editor and was originally text mode based, but has evolved over the years to be able to create more complex games. MegaZeux is available for download here and this game will soon be as well, in case you want to peek at the code (warning: parts of it are truly atrocious).

If you're still planning on finishing this game, I recommend increasing the player's default walk speed. Not only is it sluggish on its own, but it doesn't give you enough time to react to enemy projectiles, resulting in unavoidable damage. In fact, maybe also slow down enemy projectile speed while you're at it.
I also recommend reducing the transformation time. I get that you want a risk/reward system where you can still get attacked, but the wait-time is currently way overboard and should be reduced to 2 seconds or less. To counterbalance this, you could make it so that enemies have an actual pattern and don't just move in random directions like NES Zelda.
Yo! Is this really Megazeux? I haven't played a mzx title since , like, '07. Are those sprites? And movement off of the 80x24 grid??
Gameplay is great! I love the magical girl transformation mechanic, and it's great how some of the monsters can spread fire. Multi-use potions might be a little too effective, tho.
I'm super looking forward to seeing this completed!
